Description
The funding program Social Cohesion in Berlin supports integrative measures for neighborhood development aimed at stabilizing and unlocking the potential of disadvantaged urban districts. It is directed at public institutions as well as companies and funds both structural and socio-integrative projects. The goal is to improve social infrastructure, enhance public spaces, and strengthen the cooperation of local stakeholders. Applications can be submitted if the projects align with the Integrated Action and Development Concept (IHEK) and, in the case of structural measures, proof of disposal rights over the affected properties can be provided. Additionally, project employees must receive at least the statutory minimum wage, contributing to fair working conditions.
The funding is provided as a grant and can reach a funding rate of up to 100 percent, whereby private applicants must contribute a minimum own share of 10 percent. The program divides financial support into three distinct neighborhood funds – Construction Fund, Project Fund, and Action Fund – which specifically support the structural and social transformation of neighborhoods. Measures are funded in fields such as health promotion, social infrastructure, as well as urban development and urban renewal, which sustainably improve social cohesion on site. The structured approach enables the realization of diverse projects that increase the quality of life in the affected districts both preventively and reactively.
The integrated project financing strengthens not only structural development but also community structures locally. By promoting initiatives focused on neighborhood work, educational offerings, and cultural projects, a network is created in which participation and local initiative are central elements. This funding program is based on cross-departmental collaboration and leverages synergies from federal, state, and municipal funds to achieve sustainable effects within the social fabric of the neighborhoods. Thus, the support not only fosters infrastructure but also significantly contributes to residents actively engaging in shaping their living environment and thereby contributing to a livable urban future.
