Social Fund of the Salzburg Fire Brigades – Compensation for Injured Fire Brigade Members

The Social Fund of the Salzburg State Fire Brigade Association supports members of the Salzburg fire brigades as well as their surviving dependents with financial compensation in the event of service-related incidents. In cases of service accidents or illnesses, fire service personnel receive a flat-rate daily allowance as compensation for loss of earnings. If private property is damaged – for example, glasses or dentures – financial assistance is granted for replacement. Regardless of the specific service action, the fund provides both immediate aid and possible annual payments in the event of death, for dependent children or spouses without other maintenance claims. Applications are processed unbureaucratically through the local fire brigade and can generally be submitted at any time, provided that sick leaves are reported within five days after the accident or illness.

Eligible for funding are all active members of the Salzburg fire brigades and, in the event of death, their surviving children or spouses without other maintenance claims. Required documents include a medical certificate confirming the duration of sick leave for service accidents, invoices and proof of payment for damaged property, as well as the death certificate in case of death. The fund’s objective is to stabilize personal and family livelihood in exceptional situations and to provide prompt financial assistance. This measure contributes to strengthening voluntary service in disaster protection and underscores the appreciation of voluntary commitment in the state of Salzburg.
