Elite Sports

The promotion of Austrian elite sports provides nationwide grants for the sustainable development and security of sports careers at the highest level. In accordance with the Federal Sports Promotion Act, individual and structural framework conditions are continuously evaluated and optimized to pave the way for athletes to reach world-class status. The focus is on integrating dual career education into the regular school system, creating innovative elite sports models in lower secondary education, and systematically linking sports science research with practice. Additionally, training programs for coaches are being expanded, and social security provisions are established through follow-up employment opportunities with the military, police, and customs authorities to offer elite athletes the best possible prospects beyond the sports arena.

Interested stakeholders such as Austrian elite athletes (including athletes with disabilities), sports associations, non-profit organizations, and public institutions may submit applications at any time. As grant funding, resources are available without a limited budget volume, with all initiatives coordinated to create synergies with regional and municipal authorities. The goal is to strengthen Austria as a sports location in the long term by promoting centers of excellence, talent development, and international competitiveness equally. The funding is particularly suitable for associations and clubs already active at the international elite level, as well as for individuals seeking to create optimal conditions through comprehensive training, structured career planning, and targeted research. Ongoing application submissions enable timely support for innovative projects and contribute to sustainably unlocking the potential of domestic talents.
