Description
The Sports Funding Contribution of the City of Vienna has represented a nationwide unique solidarity measure since 1948: ten percent of the ticket prices at sporting events are earmarked and reinvested in Viennese recreational and elite sports. Through these funds, Viennese umbrella sports associations (ASKÖ, ASVÖ, UNION), regional specialized associations, and sports clubs can continuously apply for grants to manage and modernize their infrastructure as well as to carry out sporting activities. The financing aims at the sustainable maintenance of sports facilities, the strengthening of youth sports, and the promotion of top-level performance. The unlimited application deadline ensures flexible planning for club management, association committees, and non-profit organizations.
The Sports Funding Contribution supports the needs-based care of the sports-active population and the qualified training of coaches and officials. Both maintenance measures on halls, fields, and training facilities as well as projects in elite and recreational sports are funded. The allocation of funds is carried out by the Sports Department of the City of Vienna (MA 51) according to annually determined city council resolutions. Interested service providers based in Vienna can submit an informal application at any time. Eligible expenses particularly include costs for the maintenance of sports facilities, youth development, and the organization of national and international competitions. Thus, the contribution provides an important stimulus for sports infrastructure and makes a tangible contribution to the quality of life in Vienna.
