Description
The Sports Awards of the City of Vienna recognize outstanding athletic achievements by individual athletes and Viennese sports associations in the context of major international events such as European Championships, World Championships, and the Olympic Games. With open application opportunities from January 1, 2025, the City of Vienna grants awards as financial recognition of sporting successes, thereby sending a visible signal of appreciation for competitive sports in the capital. The awards are given in the form of direct funding and support both individual athletes and associations in honoring and sustainably promoting top athletic performances.
Eligible for support are athletes competing for a Viennese club or—if affiliated with a club abroad—with permanent primary residence in Vienna. In team sports, the majority of team members must compete for a Viennese club. Funding applications are submitted by the responsible Viennese sports federation and must include a results list from the relevant major event as well as the data of the applicants and the federation. This includes name, address, contact details, and information about authorized representatives. The City of Vienna – Sports Vienna (MA 51) handles the processing of submissions and provides information on the next steps. With this instrument, the state capital not only strengthens the national and international presence of its athletes but also promotes Vienna’s sporting identity at the highest level.
