Description
The Sports Facilities/Sports Infrastructure funding program of the Federal Ministry of Sports offers grants throughout Austria for the construction, renewal, expansion, and modernization of sports facilities and infrastructures. It is aimed at natural and legal persons, public law corporations, companies, as well as non-profit organizations, interest groups, and clubs planning projects of nationwide significance. The focus is on optimizing training and competition conditions for performance and elite sports, as well as on the long-term sustainable use of existing sports facilities. With the goal of strengthening Austria as a host of major sporting events, the program supports investments that would not be feasible without federal funds. Applications can be submitted continuously until the funding volume is exhausted.
Eligible costs primarily include construction, renewal, expansion, modernization, renovation, and planning expenses, while expenditures for transport infrastructure, land acquisition, official procedures, or non-elite sports-related facilities (e.g., canteens) are excluded. A prerequisite is the timely submission of an information data sheet, prior coordination with the state and municipality, as well as proof that the project cannot be realized without federal sports funding. Within the framework of a transparent evaluation, experts assess the nationwide relevance and proof of need, sustainability and utilization concepts, the quality of project and financial planning, as well as the completeness of required expert reports and permits. The funding significantly contributes to creating modern conditions for athletes and to developing the infrastructure in a future-oriented manner in the interest of Austrian elite sports.
