Sports Event Funding

The state of Salzburg specifically allocates funds through its funding program for sporting events taking place within the state of Salzburg. The range extends from international major events such as World and European Championships to national championships and large-scale mass sports events with supraregional significance. The funding objective includes both the organization of high-quality mass and elite sports competitions as well as the participation of Salzburg athletes in international competitions. As continuously available grants, the funds not only promote sporting diversity but also contribute to strengthening the regional image and the sustainable networking of sports facilities and initiatives.

Eligible applicants include private individuals, interest groups, non-profit associations, and public institutions. An open submission mode allows for flexible planning: for international and national major events, applications must be submitted at least twelve months before the event date; for all other sports events, three months in advance. Approval requires a complete application submission with a detailed event description, a comprehensive financing plan, and strict adherence to the funding guidelines. Selection is based on the expected number of participants, the sporting relevance, and the quality of the budget. Following a positive decision, a transparent accounting and a final report must be submitted. This program offers organizers the opportunity to sustainably realize sporting events and to set regional as well as international highlights.
