Description

The funding program "State Financial Aid for Natural Disaster Damage" of the State of Hesse is aimed at private individuals, commercial enterprises, agricultural and horticultural businesses, as well as non-profit organizations and associations that have suffered existentially threatening damage due to floods, earthquakes, landslides, extreme weather, or comparable events. Under the conditions of an involuntary emergency and lack of compensation through insurance or other assistance, the Hessian Ministry of the Interior, for Security and Homeland Protection supports those affected with loans or grants. The funding framework covers up to one-third of the assessed damage amount (in hardship cases up to 50%), and an immediate aid of up to EUR 10,000 is also available for particularly urgent needs. A minimum damage amount of EUR 5,000 and submission of the application within one month after the initiation of the financial aid action to the responsible district committee or magistrate are prerequisites.

Eligible expenses include damage repair to buildings and inventory, immediate measures for hazard prevention, as well as restoration costs. Evaluation is based on the severity of the damage, the threat to existence, and prior self-protection measures taken. To apply, the corresponding application form (template A, B, or C), proof of asset and income situation, the report of the local damage commission, as well as insurance and compensation evidence must be submitted. The program aims to provide quick and unbureaucratic assistance to enable those affected to act promptly and to avoid long-term consequential damages.
