Description

Urban Renewal in Saxony supports municipalities in the Free State of Saxony in making defined urban districts future-proof. The program targets municipal corporations with at least 2,000 inhabitants and funds projects in the areas of infrastructure, urban development & urban renewal, smart cities & regions, as well as digitalization. Applications can be submitted for spatially delimited funding areas at specified deadlines via the SAB funding portal. Grants cover up to 66% of eligible costs and enable the preparation and implementation of comprehensive urban development measures. Three subprograms are available: Vibrant Centers (LPZ), Social Cohesion in the District (SZP), and Growth and Sustainable Renewal (WEP). A planning concept forms the basis for the overall measure and documents problems, objectives, and individual steps towards project realization.

Prerequisites for funding, in addition to the population size, include the submission of a detailed concept and compliance with the subprogram-specific requirements. Municipalities may pass on approved funds to third parties to involve local actors, experts, and civic initiatives. Applications are submitted electronically via the Saxon Development Bank – Förderbank – (SAB), which acts on behalf of the Saxon State Ministry for Regional Development. The program contributes to the revitalization of urban cores, strengthens social structures, and promotes digital infrastructure – cornerstones of future-oriented urban development in Saxony.
