Foundation Funds

The Berlin Nature Conservation Foundation provides adaptable project funding with foundation resources aimed at sustainably strengthening nature and environmental initiatives in the capital. Eligible for funding are natural persons, non-profit organizations, interest groups, as well as non-commercial enterprises implementing projects in Berlin. The funds cover 100% of the incurred costs – from material and personnel expenses to environmental education measures and other project-specific expenditures. A simplified procedure enables quick approval for individual projects up to €1,000, while higher amounts can be applied for through the regular procedure without an upper limit. Requirements include, among others, that the project does not serve as a mandatory or compensatory measure, starts no earlier than eight weeks after application, and is completed within a period of up to twelve months. Submissions can be made at any time via the online application portal, supplemented by a cost and financing plan as well as a printed application with an original signature.

The selection decision is based on clearly defined evaluation criteria: contribution to nature conservation, sustainability of the measure, and civil society engagement. Initiatives of all sizes are supported, for example those promoting biodiversity, supporting climate protection, improving urban ecosystem services, or raising public environmental awareness. The foundation places special emphasis on documenting sustainable effects and considerations for continuing the projects beyond the twelve-month duration.
