Description
The scholarships of the Archbishop Hermann Foundation support students of Catholic theology as well as pastoral and religious education training at universities in the Archdiocese of Freiburg. With a monthly allowance of €300 for living expenses, the foundation enables outstanding young talents to fully concentrate on their studies and voluntary social engagement. Funding is provided to students who not only demonstrate above-average academic achievements but also volunteer for the community outside the lecture halls. An independent selection committee, consisting of the board, departments, and subject representatives, decides twice a year on the awarding of up to three scholarships per academic year.
The application deadline is June 30 and December 31 respectively for the following semester. Required are an informal application with justification, a curriculum vitae, proof of academic achievements, a recommendation from lecturers of theology or religious education, and evidence of voluntary engagement. Approval is initially granted for twelve months; an extension for an additional year is possible after eight months and requires outstanding performance as well as a supportive statement. After the funding period ends, an informal report with a transcript of records must be submitted. In this way, the Archbishop Hermann Foundation promotes not only academic excellence but also the practice of ecclesiastical and social responsibility in the region.
