Description

The City of Vienna Scholarships in the Field of Literature support authors on two levels: The Elias Canetti Scholarship awards four grants annually, each amounting to €18,000, to secure the completion of extensive literary works over a period of up to 12 months (extension up to three years possible). Additionally, the Literature Project Scholarship provides 50 one-time grants of €1,000 each to support writing projects in prose, poetry, drama, and essay. Full funding covering 100% of expenses recognized as essential for living guarantees financial independence for the scholarship recipients, allowing them to dedicate themselves to their creative work without distraction.

Funding is provided to individuals with a demonstrably representative body of work for the Elias Canetti Scholarship, as well as writers who wish to complete a specific project. Evaluation criteria include the quality and innovativeness of the literary project, the feasibility of the submitted project, and the submission of a complete list of works. The project duration is generally 12 months, with a funding amount of €18,000 per year or €1,000 as a one-time grant. Applications must include a detailed project description, a curriculum vitae, and proof of previous publications. The Cultural Department of the City of Vienna (MA 7) ensures a fair distribution of funds and places great emphasis on diversity, inclusion, and transparency in cultural funding.
