Description
The scholarship program of the International Youth Library Foundation supports international scholars, authors, and illustrators in researching children’s and youth literature as well as illustration within the collections of the International Youth Library Munich. With monthly scholarships amounting to €1,300 and a funding duration between six weeks and three months, the program provides full access to the scientific reading room of the specialized library. In addition to workspace usage, living expenses are covered and assistance is provided in finding suitable accommodation. The aim of the project is to sustainably strengthen international academic exchange, deepen cross-cultural cooperation, and stimulate comparative research approaches in the field of children’s and youth literature studies. Selection is based on the quality and relevance of the research project, academic qualifications, and potential for international dialogue.
Applications are open to early-career researchers with a doctorate, doctoral candidates, and graduates with non-German citizenship, as well as authors and illustrators who wish to advance their publication projects in Munich. Good knowledge of German and/or English is required. Funding covers exclusively the aforementioned expenses; travel costs as well as health and liability insurance must be borne independently. A complete application requires an online completed application form, a cover letter presenting the project, a publication list, proof of relevant conferences, and a detailed project description. The annual deadline is September 30, with the next possible project start date from January 1, 2025. The full funding offers an excellent opportunity to establish scientific networks in the historic setting of Blutenburg Castle and to advance the development of children’s and youth literature research.
