Description
The Scholl Scholarship of the Johannes a Lasco Library Foundation Große Kirche Emden has been specifically supporting overseas studies in the field of Protestant Theology since 1957. With a monthly grant of €1,000, students from Evangelical Reformed and Evangelical Old Reformed congregations are supported who wish to deepen their academic training outside the German-speaking area. Likewise, the program offers foreign theologians the opportunity to conduct scholarly work in the library and benefit from its rich collection. The funding reflects the positive international experiences of Astrid and Helmut Scholl and aims to strengthen intercultural competencies as well as to enable new perspectives on ecclesiastical and societal contexts.
Applications can be submitted at any time and require, among other things, proof of enrollment in the degree program as well as sufficient language skills. Additionally, a specific academic focus corresponding to the content orientation of the stay abroad must be outlined in the application. The relevance of the research project, commitment within a Reformed congregation, and linguistic aptitude are evaluated. Upon completion of the stay abroad, a detailed final report as well as a report of experiences from the host congregation must be submitted. With its flexible award guidelines, the scholarship offers ongoing funding opportunities for students training to become teachers in Protestant religion as well as for international researchers, thereby setting new impulses for Reformed Protestantism in global exchange.
