Description
The scholarship program "Contemporary German Photography" of the Alfried Krupp von Bohlen und Halbach Foundation awards an annual scholarship of €13,000 every two years to outstanding independent photographic projects. The aim is to support contemporary perspectives and innovative ways of seeing and representing photography, without thematic or practical constraints. Selection is made by an expert panel consisting of representatives from the foundation, the Photographic Collection at the Museum Folkwang, and international experts. Upon completion of the funding year, the scholarship holders present their results at a public event. A documentation of the works then becomes part of the Photographic Collection, while the copyrights remain with the photographers.
Eligible to participate are private individuals who have been residing in Germany for at least three years – German citizenship is not required. There are no age or educational requirements. A prerequisite is the submission of an independent photographic project, which may already be underway. For the application via the foundation’s digital portal, the following documents are required: a fully completed online application, an artistic CV (German/English), a project exposé (German/English, max. 2,000 characters), as well as image examples and installation views of previous works as PDFs (max. 8 MB). The next call for applications is expected to be published in summer 2026.
