Description

The scholarship from the Evonik Foundation is aimed at talented early-career scientists in the natural sciences and supports Master’s and diploma theses, doctoral projects, as well as postdoctoral endeavors nationwide. Applicants must demonstrate excellent academic performance and conduct their research project within a renowned, chemistry-oriented research group at a German university or research institution. The funding includes financial support ranging from €250 to €600 per month for six months for diploma and Master’s theses, and €1,850 per month for up to two years for doctoral projects, with the option for extension. Additionally, funds for specialist literature and conference attendance may be requested. A prerequisite is that no other sufficient funding is available from personal resources, parents, or third parties, and that the project aligns with the annually announced funding focus (for example, amino acid research within the framework of the Werner Schwarze Scholarship).

The selection process is divided into three phases: Initially, a brief research outline (max. ½ page) must be submitted by February 15. After a positive review, reviewers invite candidates to submit a complete application, which must be received by February 28 in a single PDF file. This includes a letter of motivation, a tabular CV, a detailed exposé (max. 10 pages), certificates, letters of recommendation from supervising professors, and the completed Evonik questionnaire. In the final selection round, candidates present their project in an interview before a panel of experts. Approval for funding starting in June is granted by the Foundation Board. This scholarship offers not only financial resources but also personal and professional support to sustainably promote innovative research projects.
