Description

The study grant is a socially oriented federal-level funding program in Austria, regularly awarded under the Study Grant Act 1992. It targets motivated and capable students in their first degree program who enrolled before reaching the age of 30 and are classified as socially needy according to the provisions §§ 7–12 StudFG. As a continuous or one-time subsidy in the fields of education & training, education, social affairs, as well as labor & social affairs, this measure aims to reduce financial barriers and actively promote academic success. With a budgeted volume of approximately 241 million euros, the program contributes to creating an equitable study environment and increasing the number of university degrees in line with the Bologna objectives.

Prerequisites for the award include proof of satisfactory academic progress (§§ 16–25 StudFG), an unfinished course of study, and commencement of studies before the age of 30. The following documents are required for the application: Form SB 1 (application for study grant), Form SB 3 (parental data sheet), Form SB 5 (proof of maintenance payments), as well as a current academic progress report. Application deadlines are divided into the winter semester September 20–December 15 and summer semester February 20–May 15; in case of late submission, the funding takes effect from the month of application. Processing is handled by the Study Grant Authority, and applications can be submitted electronically via ID Austria or in paper form.
