Description
The funding measure “Supporting All-Atlantic Ocean Research and Innovation Alliance (AAORIA)” is aimed at international consortia consisting of universities, research institutions, NGOs, authorities, companies, and civil society organizations from Atlantic states. The objective is to coordinate and strengthen research and innovation activities in the marine sector for the sustainable use of the Atlantic. With a total budget of €4.5 million, governance structures, capacity building, and intergenerational programs are supported over a duration of 36 months. Eligible costs include personnel and material expenses, travel and accommodation costs, as well as workshops, events, and digitization measures. Infrastructure investments, property purchases, or retroactive costs are excluded. Applications require at least three partners from three AAORIA member countries, interdisciplinary expertise, clear governance, and evidence of competence. The funding rate is 100%, and submissions are possible until 15.04.2026.
Projects should advance the implementation of the AAORIA strategy, consolidate existing initiatives in the priority areas of the AAORIA Declaration 2022, and promote new partnerships. A focus lies on establishing an All-Atlantic Intergenerational Programme for knowledge transfer between generations, for example through summer schools, annual dialogue events, and networks such as ECOP. Furthermore, networking with international bodies such as IOC-UNESCO and EU missions is pursued, as well as the development of open data platforms to support small island states. Selection is based on innovation content, contribution to AAORIA goals, interdisciplinarity, and governance planning. Required documents include a cover letter, project description, financing plan, CVs, business plan, and consortium agreement. The European Commission acts as the executive body managing the funds and organizing the evaluation and approval of applications.
