Description
Partially Supported Living in Vienna assists people with physical, intellectual, psychological, or sensory disabilities in leading a self-determined life in their own private apartment, in shared housing, or within a Garconnieren community. As a permanent grant funded by the Fonds Soziales Wien (FSW), needs-based care services provided by qualified professionals have been available since 01.01.2014. The focus is on strengthening self-determination and independence: targeted assistance in daily life, household tasks, health matters, leisure activities, and administrative procedures enables comprehensive participation. The funding decision is based on individual care needs, the professional quality of the care concept, and the degree of supported self-determination. Eligible expenses include housing organization, shopping and meal preparation, accompaniment to medical appointments, support with daily structure, finances, mobility, crisis support, and service identification, but not rent, board, or general household costs. Care is provided flexibly in the clients’ apartments, at the care center, or another agreed location.
Eligible for funding are adults with primary residence or habitual residence in Vienna, Austrian citizenship (or equivalent status), and documented disability. A prerequisite is that no equivalent services are received from third parties. Applications can be submitted at any time and require the completed FSW application form, official photo ID, proof of disability (medical report or care allowance decision), residence status and social insurance documentation, commitment/liability declaration, and proof of care-related financial benefits. After reviewing all documents and an assessment by a multiprofessional team, funding is granted in the form of a monthly subsidy, the amount of which is determined according to the individually assessed care needs. This program combines professional expertise with tailored funding that sustainably strengthens people with disabilities in Vienna in their independent life plans and integrates them into society.
