Description
Part-time Supported Living for People with Mental Disabilities in Styria supports non-profit sponsoring organizations through a grant for the development and maintenance of community-based housing models in the fields of social affairs, health, as well as work & social services. The program creates a bridge between inpatient care and independent living for mentally ill individuals aged 18 and over who do not require permanent clinical treatment but do need regular supervision. A case manager system ensures professional continuity and a balanced living environment that enables both communal experiences and individual retreat options. The focus is on promoting social participation and deliberately preventing isolation through structured activities and relationship work. Ongoing funding applications can be submitted at any time, provided a valid approval notice exists and outpatient services alone are insufficient.
Through practical life assistance and psychosocial interventions, psychological and social well-being is stabilized and healthy personality traits are strengthened to prevent chronic conditions. A central funding objective is to reduce inpatient hospital stays, avoid institutional placements, and gradually enable more independent housing models. Funding is provided for individuals who support themselves financially but possess basic social skills and a willingness to live communally. Prerequisites include a valid approval notice, the non-requirement of full-time care alongside insufficient outpatient care options, and readiness for communal living. The measure serves the long-term social rehabilitation and integration of mentally impaired persons into society.
