Description

The Theater & Dance Funding of the Niedersachsen Foundation strengthens the independent professional scene in Lower Saxony by financially supporting productions, revivals, and festivals with supraregional impact. Funding is provided to independent theater and dance ensembles as well as organizers of dance and theater festivals – ranging from innovative performative productions and documentary theater to children’s and youth theater formats. A special focus is placed on supporting young artists and the professionalization of the independent performing arts. The goal is to sustainably secure the diversity and quality of the dance and theater landscape in Lower Saxony and to set new impulses at both the national and international levels. Funding is provided as a non-repayable grant; applications can be submitted for any amount, with a minimum sum of 5,000 euros. Full financing is not provided: own funds and additional co-financing are encouraged.

Applications can be submitted online throughout the year; for timely consideration, receipt must be no later than six weeks before the meetings of the Secretary General, the Administrative Board, or the Senate. Only non-profit organizations based in Lower Saxony are eligible for funding. The current tax exemption certificate (not older than three years) and the results of the Ecological Sustainability Checklist in PDF format must be attached. Projects that have already started or been rejected, gap financing, as well as ongoing general costs for personnel and material resources are not funded. The transparent committee decision ensures a fair distribution of funds and contributes to strengthening the theater and dance scene in Lower Saxony in the long term. Interested independent ensembles and festival organizers can find comprehensive information about the funding procedure and submission of all required documents via the online portal.
