Description
The investment grant “Thermal-Energetic Renovation of Multi-Family Houses” has been supporting thermal and energetic modernizations of residential buildings in Vienna since May 1, 2021. Eligible for funding are private individuals and companies aiming to sustainably upgrade their properties in terms of housing construction & modernization, energy efficiency & renewable energies, climate protection, as well as infrastructure & urban development. Depending on the achieved renovation level, the grant rates range between €35 and €220 per square meter. The program is legally anchored in the Vienna Housing Promotion and Residential Building Renovation Act and targets a significant reduction of CO₂ emissions and a long-term decrease in energy costs. Special consideration is given to buildings in proper maintenance condition that are repaired in the same or similar construction method to permanently secure the building fabric. The measure simultaneously creates increased living quality through improved indoor climate. Funding applications can be submitted continuously, allowing flexible planning of extensive renovation projects.
A wide range of measures to optimize the building envelope and technology are supported: These include thermal insulation of all exterior components, renewal of windows and exterior doors, elimination of thermal bridges, increase of passive solar heat gains, as well as external sun protection. Furthermore, the funding covers the installation or conversion to sustainable heating and hot water systems using primary energy-efficient or renewable energy sources, as well as measures to improve the efficiency of existing systems. A prerequisite for approval is the submission of the application before the start of work and a proper maintenance condition of the property. Among other documents, a current land register excerpt, topographical data (rent and owner lists), if applicable powers of attorney, plans, as well as construction contracts and cost estimates must be submitted. This open-ended funding instrument offers owners and companies a reliable basis for profitable renovation projects in Vienna.
