Description
The Ulmer Band is an annual award presented by the Ulmer Bürger Stiftung, honoring up to five outstanding citizens each year since 2000. It recognizes individuals who have significantly enriched life in Ulm through political, cultural, religious, economic, or social engagement, or who have enhanced the city’s reputation through intellectual and artistic works. By acknowledging exceptional achievements, the foundation contributes to strengthening social cohesion and highlighting exemplary initiatives within the local community.
Award candidates must demonstrate sustainable civic engagement with a local focus and show a positive impact on the Ulm community. The evaluation particularly considers the extraordinariness and sustainability of their commitment as well as their role-model effect for the citizenry. Awardees receive recognition not only at the municipal level but have also been automatically nominated since 2017 for the German Engagement Award, which honors outstanding engagement nationwide.
