Description
The environmental funding for community gardens is aimed at citizens, businesses, non-profit organizations, and public institutions in Graz and focuses on the ecological and climate-friendly redesign of urban spaces. This grant enables the transformation of urban areas into community-managed gardens that are at least 30 m² in size and used by eight or more Graz households. In addition to strengthening local food supply, resource conservation is emphasized: rainwater use, composting, and non-GMO seeds are central funding criteria. The funding program, anchored in the fields of environmental/nature conservation, climate protection, and energy efficiency, is limited from 01.01.2025 to 31.12.2026; applications can be submitted annually until December 31.
Expenses eligible for funding include purchase of gardening materials, lease costs, and insurance costs. For new installations, up to €3,000 is granted for a minimum usage period of over three years, or up to €1,500 for one- to three-year usage; ongoing operations are supported from the second year of operation with up to €1,200 per calendar year. Submission of fully paid invoices (maximum 12 months old, earliest from 01.01.2025), a detailed final accounting, a household list with at least eight Graz households, and proof of rainwater use, composting, and use of non-GMO seeds are prerequisites. Additionally, photographic evidence of garden use, a list of community activities, and granting of inspection access are required. Upon dissolution of the garden, the funded gardening materials must be passed on to other community gardens or charitable organizations, and invoices with retention of title are excluded.
