Description

The ÖH Social Fund in Vienna supports students who are members of the Austrian Students' Union and can demonstrably prove that they are in an acute financial emergency. Applications can be submitted year-round without a fixed deadline, with a processing time of approximately three months typically expected. Funding is granted once per calendar year up to €1,400 and is aimed at students with sufficient academic progress (at least 16 ECTS or 8 semester hours per week) and without other forms of assistance. The funding gap can be co-financed by both the Federal Ministry of Education, Science and Research and local ÖH structures to avoid double funding and ensure prompt support.

Eligible expenses include living and housing costs, tuition fees, childcare, psychotherapy, as well as mediation services in cases of family maintenance conflicts. Applicants should submit, in addition to a photo ID and proof of academic progress, bank statements, income proofs of all household members, and receipts for housing and therapy costs. Additional documentation (e.g., birth certificate, disability pass) is required for students with children or disabilities. Decisions are made considering social need, academic success, and cooperation with the local ÖH. Through the Social Fund, the Austrian Students' Union significantly contributes to mitigating unforeseen hardship cases and securing academic success despite financial obstacles.
