Support services for ill or injured firefighters

The grant program in Upper Austria supports members of the fire brigades who are ill or injured in the course of performing official duties, as well as organs and auxiliary bodies of the State Fire Brigade Association and their survivors. Both the severity of the illness or injury and any benefits already granted, as well as the individual social circumstances of the affected persons, are carefully considered. The support is provided in an uncomplicated manner in the form of financial compensation to sustainably stabilize the living situation of those affected and to counteract additional burdens.

Eligible to apply are all private individuals who can demonstrate active membership in a fire brigade or in organs/auxiliary bodies of the State Fire Brigade Association and whose illness or accident is related to official duties. Survivors of fire brigade members who died in the line of duty may also submit an application. Applications can be submitted throughout the year (without deadline) and are reviewed by the Finance Directorate of the Office of the Upper Austrian State Government. Evaluation criteria include the severity of the health impairment, benefits already received, and the social situation of the applicant. This ongoing funding offer helps to appreciate the extraordinary commitment of firefighters and to provide important financial support in emergencies.
