Description
The distribution funding from Medienboard Berlin-Brandenburg specifically strengthens the distribution of feature films with a special film-cultural and economic connection to the region. As a repayable, interest-free loan, up to 80% of eligible distribution pre-costs, marketing and promotional measures, as well as the production of copies, are co-financed. Eligible to apply are small and medium-sized distribution companies based in Germany whose project has already received production funding. The funding aims to support regional distribution pre-costs and marketing expenses so that innovative and high-quality film productions in Berlin-Brandenburg reach a broader audience and the local media industry is sustainably strengthened. The funding rate ranges between 50% and 80% of the verified expenses, depending on the risk profile of the project.
A binding consultation with Medienboard is required before submitting an application; submissions are made on fixed dates via the online portal. Requirements include, among others, a registered office in Germany and a legally valid distribution or sales contract. The funding application must be submitted with a streaming link to the film, a marketing concept, a detailed calculation of total costs including a specified regional impact, a financing plan, as well as proof of available equity and third-party funds. After a positive funding commitment, 90% of the loan is paid out upon contract signing, with the remainder following successful final review. Repayment begins with exploitation revenues and usually ends five years after the cinema release. Distribution companies thus benefit from a flexible financing structure to effectively implement their marketing and presentation measures.
