Description

Provision of shore power for inland vessels in Rhineland-Palatinate offers financial support for investments in electric shore connections for commercial inland vessels. Funding is provided for the new construction and expansion of such shore power systems, including the necessary planning services by third parties, covering up to 80% of eligible costs. The objective of the measure is to avoid the operation of diesel engines and generators during cargo handling or waiting times at berths, thereby reducing emissions and strengthening climate protection. The funding is granted as a subsidy by the Ministry of Economic Affairs, Transport, Agriculture and Viticulture of Rhineland-Palatinate and is administered by the Investment and Structural Bank Rhineland-Palatinate (ISB). Applications can be submitted continuously before the start of the project, ensuring flexible planning.

Eligible applicants include municipalities, companies, public institutions, interest groups, as well as private individuals with headquarters or operational projects in Rhineland-Palatinate. Key requirements include supply exclusively from renewable energy sources, compliance with legal and technical standards, and adherence to the principles of economic efficiency and thriftiness. The shore power system must demonstrate high utilization potential, primarily serve commercial shipping, and be operated appropriately for at least ten years. Costs for grid expansion, administrative expenses, personnel, and operating costs are not eligible for funding. Thus, the program is particularly aimed at stakeholders who wish to contribute to environmentally friendly and efficient inland navigation through sustainable investments.
