Description
In Styria, a subsidized, full-time supervised social psychiatric residential form enables community-based care for people aged 18 and over with severe or chronic mental illness. Providers are officially approved private disability institutions with a valid service contract with the Styrian state government, which create a living environment within the framework of a grant where professional specialists engage in relationship work around the clock. Through targeted interventions and the normalization principle, daily activities are promoted, social isolation is avoided, and an atmosphere is created that allows both communal activities and retreat. Since November 12, 2013, there has been an unlimited opportunity to submit applications to sustainably stabilize the psychological and social well-being of the residents.
The funding objective is to develop independent life perspectives, reduce hospital and institutional stays, and support the transition to further residential forms. A prerequisite is the necessity of permanent, full-time supervised social psychiatric care, as part-time or outpatient care models are insufficient. Additionally, residents must already possess basic social skills and be willing to live communally. The measure targets non-profit organizations active in the social, health, as well as labor and social sectors and makes a significant contribution to the reintegration and rehabilitation of people with mental impairments.
