Description

The internship programs of the Stiftung Kinder fördern – Zukunft stiften enable students and young professionals from all over Germany to engage for at least six months in intercultural educational and social projects in Paternoster (South Africa) or Aussenkehr (Namibia). In partnership with local schools and institutions, participants develop and supervise afternoon care programs, reading promotion initiatives, kindergarten projects, and life-skill workshops. The focus is on establishing or expanding school libraries as well as promoting essential future skills (e.g., gardening, sports, creative activities). Children and youth in disadvantaged regions benefit from individually tailored group offerings, while the interns gain valuable experience in intercultural teamwork, project management, and educational practice. Close support is provided by long-term interns and local junior interns, complemented by regular briefing sessions in Stuttgart.

Application documents include a letter of motivation (in German or English), a tabular CV with photo, and information on the desired deployment period. Eligibility requirements are enrollment or a degree in relevant fields of study (e.g., teaching, special education, social sciences, engineering), practical experience in child and youth work, teamwork and conflict resolution skills, resilience, intercultural openness, and English proficiency. Selection criteria are based on field of study and prior experience, motivation, and availability for the minimum stay. Applications are accepted on an ongoing basis; binding deadlines apply approximately six months before the start date (e.g., 31.08.2025 for Jan–Jun 2026, 15.12.2025 for Apr–Sep 2026). These voluntary services not only promote individual development but also collaboratively create sustainable educational offerings for young people in Africa together with local partners.
