Description

Waldradar is a funding program of the Federal Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry, Climate and Environmental Protection, Regions and Water Management, specifically targeting research organizations and scientific institutions in Vienna. At its core is a research mandate to optimize remote monitoring of forest damage under challenging observation conditions such as dense cloud cover or topographical shading. With a funding amount of up to €289,000, the program supports innovative approaches to data analysis and damage identification to sustainably improve the health and resilience of native forests. The grant is aligned with the provisions of the Research Organizations Act and places great emphasis on adherence to scientific quality standards and transparency throughout the project duration.

Eligible for funding are educational institutions, non-profit organizations, as well as companies possessing expertise in remote sensing, environmental and climate protection, or energy-efficient technologies. Applications can be submitted continuously starting from April 15, 2026, without a fixed deadline. A prerequisite for the disbursement of funds is the submission of regular interim reports as well as a final report documenting project progress and achieved results. Through gender-neutral language, all participating researchers and project partners are equally included. The program invites interested parties to develop forward-looking concepts and technologies that contribute to the sustainable management of forest ecosystems and strengthen climate protection.
