Description

The warning and alarm system in Austria ensures the functionality of the supraregional warning infrastructure in Lower Austria, Upper Austria, Salzburg, Tyrol, and Vorarlberg. With an annual grant volume of 3.452 million euros, it supports state governments as well as responsible disaster protection authorities – including fire brigades and civil protection organizations – in the maintenance of sirens, technical components, and communication networks. The goal is demand-oriented alerting in the event of a disaster and the long-term strengthening of public protection. The funding is based on § 3 No. 4 lit. c of the Disaster Fund Act 1996 and is granted by the Federal Ministry of the Interior (Dept. II/ORK/10).

Applications can be submitted until December 31, 2030; the deadline began on November 29, 2013. Only public institutions of the aforementioned federal states are eligible to apply. The measure contributes to the permanent maintenance of a comprehensive warning infrastructure and ensures rapid information of the population in an emergency. Further details are specified in the official funding guidelines and technical documentation. The program makes a central contribution to the resilience of disaster protection and the safety of all communities in Austria.
