Description
The program “Hydrogen Storage Brandenburg (2024)” supports small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), municipal utilities, and energy providers in Brandenburg in implementing new hydrogen technologies and storage systems. The goal is to advance the use of renewable hydrogen as a component for integrating renewable energies within the state. Funding is primarily provided for investments in facilities for the production, utilization, distribution, and storage of hydrogen, as well as in chemical, mechanical, or thermal storage systems for electricity from wind and solar energy. With grants of up to 60% of eligible expenses and funding amounts up to EUR 30 million per project, applicants receive planning security for investments starting at EUR 200,000. Accompanying criteria such as climate protection effect, economic viability, and technical feasibility are equally relevant.
Applications can be submitted until June 30, 2027; project start is possible from June 1, 2024, and a project duration of up to 36 months is envisaged. Recipients of funding must submit, in addition to the project description and financing plan, among other things, state aid law information, evidence of renewable hydrogen, and climate compatibility assessments for infrastructure investments. The Investment Bank of the State of Brandenburg (ILB) oversees the process, reviews the funding requirements, and ensures economical and efficient use of funds. Overall, the program makes an important contribution to modernizing the energy landscape and strengthens regional economic expertise in the field of hydrogen and energy storage.
