WE ARE OCEAN

In 2025, the OKEANOS Foundation for the Sea, in cooperation with the international curator collective ARTPORT, is funding the program WE ARE OCEAN at a school in Hesse. Since its inception in 2019, this interdisciplinary project has brought together artists, scientists, political decision-makers, and young people to raise awareness about the state of the oceans through artistic means. Through exhibitions, workshops, and participatory formats, WE ARE OCEAN creates space for aesthetic engagement with the causes and consequences of climate change and motivates both pupils and students to act responsibly in climate and marine protection.

As a sponsorship measure, the funding is exclusively aimed at educational institutions based in Hesse that have an interest in artistic-scientific project work in the field of environmental protection. Participating schools receive professional support from experts, benefit from modular components on art and research, as well as from an accompanying educational concept that can be integrated into the curriculum. Applications are made easily through the OKEANOS Foundation, which selects suitable schools and coordinates the project process. With WE ARE OCEAN, a sustainable learning environment is created in which artistic processes lead to practical marine conservation skills and young people are empowered as active agents of a sustainable society.
