World Book Day – Book Voucher Campaign "I Give You a Story"

The nationwide reading promotion campaign for World Book Day is aimed at students in the 4th and 5th grades, who, as part of the book voucher campaign "I’m Giving You a Story," collect a free copy of the current campaign book for their entire class at the local bookstore. As a 100% funded grant, the book vouchers are provided by educational institutions or companies through the Book Culture and Reading Promotion Foundation of the German Publishers and Booksellers Association. The goal is to strengthen reading motivation early on, promote reading competence, and intensify direct interaction between children and local bookstores. Participation takes place as a class group and helps to shape reading experiences collectively and to establish the book as a medium for access to culture and knowledge.

Registration for 4th or 5th grades is possible from November 25 and is done via a standardized registration form available on the campaign’s website. To ensure a smooth process, cooperating local bookstores must be involved in addition to class registration. The project start is scheduled for April 23, 2026, with exact ordering deadlines and further information continuously published on the campaign page.
