Werner Kühl Prize (Werner Kühl Foundation)

Since 1999, the Werner Kühl Foundation has been committed to promoting the visibility of contemporary culture in northwest Germany. Under the foundation's umbrella, the Werner Kühl Prize was established in 2000 and is awarded biennially to preserve the artistic legacy of the Syke painter Werner Kühl and to support young artists. Through the award, the foundation honors outstanding works in the fields of visual arts and culture & media, thereby contributing to the revitalization of the regional art scene in Bremen and Lower Saxony. Prize winners receive not only a substantial monetary award but are also honored with an exclusive solo exhibition at the renowned Syker Vorwerk – Center for Contemporary Art. This exhibition brings additional attention to the awarded projects and provides the artists with a platform to present their works to a broad audience.

Eligible to participate are individuals who reside or carry out their artistic activities in northwest Germany and who are actively committed to contemporary artistic creation. Submission of artistic works and application for the regular competition are prerequisites for funding. With the prize, the Werner Kühl Foundation aims to provide artists with sustainable support and to stimulate a vibrant cultural landscape. The combination of financial support and exhibition presence offers a unique opportunity to strengthen regional art appreciation and to enrich the creative diversity of the region in the long term.
