Description
The Vienna Homeless Assistance of the Fonds Soziales Wien (FSW) supports homeless, unhoused, and individuals threatened with loss of housing, as well as families and single parents in Vienna, with a comprehensive range of services. The focus is on mobile and stationary supervised housing as well as mother-child facilities, which, with professionally qualified teams, pave a way (back) to a self-determined life. Interdisciplinary counseling, support with official or social matters, and psychosocial care form a network that enables a sustainable improvement of the living situation. Thanks to ongoing funding opportunities, applications can be processed at any time and flexibly—without application deadlines.
Grants are provided to cover the operating costs of the “recognized institutions,” with payments made directly to the providers. Requirements include main residence in Vienna, proof of homelessness, unhoused status, or imminent loss of housing, a social emergency, and a minimum income according to the Vienna Minimum Income scheme. Austrian citizens and equivalent persons may apply. Evaluation criteria include individual support needs, urgency of the housing situation, and extent of social exclusion. An application must be submitted with an official photo ID, current registration certificate, proof of income, proof of citizenship, and social security number. There is no legal entitlement; approval is at the discretion of the FSW, which, with an annual budget of approximately €2.6 billion, supports about 145,000 people each year.
