Description

The Wilderness Run by Wilderness International offers educational institutions in Germany and Austria the opportunity to raise funds for the permanent protection of species-rich rainforest areas. As a classic charity run, the format combines athletic commitment with environmental education and climate protection: students of all school types are actively involved in securing sponsors, thereby promoting the preservation of valuable ecosystems. At the same time, an accompanying lecture raises awareness of the importance of intact primeval forests as a buffer against climate change and strengthens the consciousness for sustainable action. The program is aimed at schools and public institutions that plan at least four weeks in advance for the organization and wish to participate as a class or entire institution.

Registration can be made at any time by email via Wilderness International or directly through the Fundoo platform, ensuring flexible planning. After registration, teachers set a running date, inform the school community, and organize sponsor lists, the running route, and helpers. On the day of the run, students complete as many laps as possible within a given time – each lap is rewarded through sponsor contributions and subsequently flows into rainforest protection. The funds raised are collected, evaluated, and enable the securing of additional hectares of rainforest in Peru and Canada. Finally, all participants receive certificates indicating the protected area, and particularly committed runners are awarded prizes. Through this successful combination of education, sport, and nature conservation, the Wilderness Run makes an active contribution to environmental education and promotes the personal responsibility of future generations.
