Willy Hager Medal

The Willy Hager Medal is a nationwide award presented every three years by the non-profit Willy Hager Foundation in Stuttgart. It honors scientific personalities who have made a significant contribution to process engineering through outstanding research in the field of water and wastewater treatment. The focus is on the degree of innovation of the studies, their relevance to sustainability, and the fundamental importance of the results achieved. Since its first presentation in 1995, the award has recognized renowned experts and is considered one of the most prestigious honors in the field of environmental and water technology in Germany.

Eligible applicants are private individuals working at a technical university of applied sciences or university in Germany who can demonstrate excellent scientific achievements in the subject area of water and wastewater treatment. An independent jury evaluates the submitted proposals based on established criteria such as innovativeness, practical relevance, and long-term environmental impact. Awardees receive, in addition to the medal and a certificate, special recognition within the professional community. The award makes an important contribution to increasing the visibility of groundbreaking research results and promoting interdisciplinary exchange between research institutions, industry, and environmental protection organizations.
