Description
The funding program Understanding Science supports scientific initiatives in Vienna with the aim of presenting scientific and technical knowledge in an understandable and transparent manner. Entities from universities, universities of applied sciences, associations, non-university research institutions, companies, as well as other legal entities in the social, research, and education sectors can submit applications continuously until 31 December 2026. Funded projects in the STEM field contribute to strengthening Vienna as a science location, promote climate protection and diversity, counteract science skepticism, while stimulating technological curiosity and increasing the attractiveness of scientific education and training.
Non-repayable grants of up to 75% of eligible project costs, but no more than €60,000 per project, are awarded. An additional women’s bonus of €5,000 rewards leadership by a qualified female project manager. The project duration is up to 24 months, with a minimum funding amount of €10,000. Eligible costs include personnel expenses, external services, intangible investments, material and supply costs, as well as travel expenses for moderators and speakers. Partnership applications are possible. Submission is via the online form of the Vienna Business Agency; processing deadlines are in April, August, and November 2025, as well as March 2026.
