Description

The Science Award of the German Osteoarthritis Foundation annually honors outstanding dissertations on the research of osteoarthritis disease and its therapies and is endowed with €5,000. The aim of this award is to advance innovations in the durability of joint prostheses and thereby sustainably improve the quality of life of those affected. An expert jury composed of the board, foundation council, and advisory board recognizes early-career researchers who gain new insights into wear mechanisms and therapy options for osteoarthritis through excellent research. This provides valuable impetus for orthopedic implant research and the development of patient-oriented solutions.

Nominees must be doctoral candidates who have completed their dissertation with the grade magna cum laude or summa cum laude and whose work has a clear connection to osteoarthritis disease and its treatment options. Candidacy is submitted through medical faculties or orthopedic professional societies. Evaluation focuses on scientific quality, the innovativeness of the research approaches, and relevance to the improvement of joint prostheses. The award not only honors outstanding achievements but also promotes future collaborations and networks within the working groups. Interested researchers can find detailed information and application documents on the website of the German Osteoarthritis Foundation.
