Description
The Science Workshop promotes science and technology education in kindergartens, new secondary schools, and academic secondary schools throughout Austria. Educational institutions receive experimental material boxes free of charge – including the KliWaWa box on climate, forest, and water, as well as the Ba(u)mbini box on forests, trees, and wood – accompanied by extensive supporting materials for playful, inquiry-based learning. Additionally, a network of learning laboratories at universities offers practical workshops on topics such as the energy transition, quantum computers, hands-on mathematics, or climate physics. These activities not only foster scientific understanding but also enhance language skills, social abilities, and fine motor skills. Regular professional conferences for early childhood educators provide in-depth insights into child protection, sustainability, and didactic concepts – speakers from research and practice present current developments and invite participation. All offerings aim to spark curiosity for STEM subjects early on and to inspire children and young people sustainably for scientific questions.
All kindergartens, new secondary schools, and academic secondary school classes in lower and upper secondary levels are eligible for funding; for workshops in the learning laboratories, two classes may participate per session. An informal request by email to the Kaiserschild Foundation or JKU secures material boxes and workshop places on a first-come, first-served basis. The lending rate is 100%, and the boxes are available for three to five weeks. Registration for the professional conference is possible until July 31, 2026; there is no deadline for material boxes. Required documents include a brief request to borrow the boxes and the completed registration form for the professional conference. With this offering, the Non-Profit Private Foundation Kaiserschild nationwide strengthens STEM education, supports educational institutions free of charge in implementing innovative learning formats, and opens new pathways to science and research for young people.
