Postpartum Crisis Support (German Family Foundation)

In the Hessen region, the German Family Foundation offers a unique, anonymous, and free support service nationwide for women experiencing postpartum or peripartum depression. Affected mothers can arrange an appointment at any time for professional support to alleviate acute psychological distress caused by sadness, exhaustion, anxiety, or mood swings. With flexible, low-threshold individual sessions in a familiar environment, the service provides prompt assistance and is intended as a complementary measure to existing early intervention programs and counseling centers.

The funding is exclusively aimed at private individuals who are affected by postpartum or peripartum depression during pregnancy or within the first two years after childbirth. As a grant, the service is tailored to the individual needs of those affected without bureaucratic hurdles: neither proof nor fees are required; only the condition of being affected through a corresponding diagnosis or self-assessment constitutes the sole eligibility criterion. The German Family Foundation cooperates with regional providers for this purpose and covers the majority of the costs itself. The program strengthens the mental health of young families and promotes stabilization during the sensitive life phase following childbirth.
