Living Space Plus Consulting through the Subsidiary Neue Wohnung gGmbH

Neue Wohnung gGmbH provides a total of 76 transitional apartments for homeless people in Hamburg across five housing projects, combining this individual accommodation with professional social counseling. The goal of the non-profit subsidiary of the Benno and Inge Behrens Foundation is to enable participants to achieve health stability through self-help and to support them on the path to permanent integration. From stabilizing health conditions to assistance with debt reduction or income security, as well as housing search, all important steps are implemented in close coordination to ultimately achieve placement in a permanent home.

Eligible for funding are homeless or unhoused private individuals residing in Hamburg, as well as non-profit organizations that receive funding in the form of grants for material and personnel costs, as well as non-monetary support services such as counseling and networking. Admission takes place continuously through the in-house procedure of Neue Wohnung gGmbH and can be applied for at any time. By permanently providing housing plus counseling, the program creates a sustainable lever against housing shortage and supports the social participation of those affected at a high professional level.
