Young Scientists Grant Cardiovascular and Neurovascular Diseases

The Youth Scientists Grant Cardiovascular and Neurovascular Diseases of the Corona Foundation supports outstanding postdoctoral researchers in the early stages of their careers who implement translational, pioneering projects at the interface between preclinical and clinical research. Nationwide, up to two projects per year are funded with a grant amount of up to €500,000 over a period of 36 months. The grant covers 100% of personnel costs for scientific staff in the doctoral phase, technical personnel, as well as necessary material resources. Overhead costs or salaries of the applicants are excluded. The goal is the development of new therapeutic approaches and the understanding of pathophysiological mechanisms in myocardial infarction, stroke, and other cardiovascular as well as neurovascular diseases.

Eligible to apply are basic scientists with clinical relevance as well as physicians in the early postdoctoral phase (two to five years after obtaining a Dr. med. degree or up to four years after a PhD) at a medical faculty in Germany. A secured position funding until the end of the funding period is required; the applicant’s own position may not be funded. Selection is conducted in two stages: first, a concept outline (maximum three pages) including a scientific CV, publication list, budget and milestone plan, as well as a letter of support from the host university must be submitted by 15 February 2026. Selected applicants will be invited to submit a full proposal by 30 April 2026. Evaluation criteria include the scientific profile, innovation potential, and interdisciplinary nature of the projects. The program makes a significant contribution to supporting early-career researchers and offers dedicated scientists ideal conditions to develop forward-looking therapeutic concepts for heart and brain.
