Description

The program of the State of Tyrol for the promotion of student transportation costs is aimed at municipalities and municipal associations that organize the transport of school-age children in Tyrol. Funding is provided for those journeys where the school route would be unreasonable without the use of public or occasional transport services. The goal is to ensure safe and barrier-free access to educational offerings and to offset the financial burden through actual transportation costs. In doing so, the State of Tyrol covers the difference between the incurred costs and the amounts reimbursed by the federal government, with the extent of the funding being determined based on the financial capacity of the applying municipality or municipal association.

For the application of the grants, a public institution acting as the cost bearer is required to submit an application annually by no later than November 30 of the calendar year in which the end of the school year falls. Eligible are all expenses directly related to student transportation. The evaluation of applications is carried out, among other criteria, based on the municipal financial capacity. A difference between the actual transportation costs incurred and the amounts refunded by the federal government, as well as the unreasonableness of the school route without public transport, are among the prerequisites. Thus, the funding makes a valuable contribution to equal access to education and helps to relieve municipal budgets.
