Description

Under the Ethnic Groups Act, the federal government in Vienna supports interest groups, associations, foundations, non-profit organizations, as well as public institutions. The objective is to secure and preserve the existence of the autochthonous ethnic groups, their distinct cultural identity, and their rights. Both cultural initiatives and intercultural projects that strengthen the coexistence of the Slovenian, Croatian, Hungarian, Czech, and Slovak ethnic groups as well as the Roma are funded. The grant covers personnel costs, material costs, travel expenses, and other project-related expenditures; retroactive costs or debt settlements are excluded. Projects may be situated in the fields of culture, education, media, engagement for social cohesion, labor & social affairs, as well as vocational training and further education, and are supported for a period of up to twelve months. The type of funding is a non-repayable grant.

A prerequisite is a recommendation by the responsible Ethnic Groups Advisory Board as well as demonstrated full financing taking into account other funding sources and the general reliability of the applicants. Evaluation is based on relevance to the target group, cultural added value, sustainability aspects, and intercultural dialogue. An online application via the Transparency Portal can be submitted without deadline restrictions since May 1, 2023, as funding allocation is continuously possible. For submission, the application form with cost and financing plan, activity reporting sheets, the latest annual financial statement, and for first-time applications the statutes as well as, if applicable, lease agreement, employment or publishing contract, and standardized job descriptions must be uploaded to receive a legally binding funding commitment.
