Description
The funding program under the Ethnic Groups Act supports non-profit organizations and public institutions throughout Austria in measures aimed at preserving and securing the existence of autochthonous ethnic groups as well as intercultural projects that promote social cohesion. The focus is on the Slovenian, Croatian, Hungarian, Czech, and Slovak ethnic groups, as well as the Roma. With contributions in the areas of culture, commitment to democracy and social cohesion, culture & media, and labor & social affairs, the funding helps to strengthen linguistic and cultural competencies, intensify the community life of the ethnic groups, and secure their rights in the long term. Applications are submitted exclusively online via the Federal Chancellery’s transparency portal. The submission deadline for the 2026 funding year has already passed; further dates are announced annually.
For accounting and verification, original invoices, original payment receipts, bank statements, specimen copies, reporting documents, and an income/expenditure statement must be submitted. Payments are made after legally effective acceptance of the contract offer to an account of the funding recipients, in installments for larger funding amounts. The Federal Chancellery reserves the right to request detailed reports and on-site inspections. This funding strengthens the structural capacities of ethnic group organizations and sustainably supports intercultural coexistence.
