Grant for Obtaining a Driver's License for People with Disabilities

Grant for Obtaining a Driver’s License for People with Disabilities supports privately insured individuals living in Vienna with a degree of disability of at least 50% or a permanent severe disability, who are unable to reasonably use public transportation for physical reasons. The funding provides a subsidy towards the costs of obtaining a driver’s license, provided that the license is necessary for commencing or performing employment. Requirements include proof of disability (§ 2 para. 1 and 3 BEinstG as well as § 10a para. 3 BEinstG), a specialist medical confirmation of indispensable participation in traffic, and a written application to the Social Ministry Service, which can be submitted at any time without limitation. The target group comprises all eligible persons under the applicable laws, regardless of age, gender, or nationality. The Social Ministry for Labour, Social Affairs, Health, Care, and Consumer Protection decides on the amount of funding.

This funding measure aims to create sustainable employment opportunities and secure existing jobs. The process is handled straightforwardly through the Support Fund for People with Disabilities, with a coordination office at the Social Ministry Service assisting applicants until payment is made. Through targeted mobility support, barrier-free participation in the labor market is strengthened, contributing to the comprehensive inclusion of people with disabilities in the social and employment sectors.
