Grants for the procurement of buses for public local passenger transport (ÖPNV)

The program for the procurement of buses for public local transport in Lower Saxony supports public institutions and companies that wish to modernize or expand their bus fleet. The goal is to create a demand-oriented, efficient, accessible, and environmentally friendly public transport service. Funding is provided for the acquisition of new buses, with a particular focus on economical and sustainable vehicle technology. Applications can be submitted continuously to the Lower Saxony Regional Transport Company (LNVG). A prerequisite for funding is approval as a responsible authority or operator in Lower Saxony's public transport system, as well as proof of a viable demand plan and economic feasibility calculation.

Grants are awarded as non-retroactive investment subsidies and cover exclusively acquisition costs for buses; operating costs are not considered. The funding guidelines, application form, and proof of use in their current versions must be attached to the application. Allocation is based on clearly defined evaluation criteria, including fleet efficiency as well as the accessibility and environmental compatibility of the vehicles. Through this funding, the Lower Saxony Ministry of Economic Affairs, Transport, Construction and Digitalization supports public transport companies and municipal public transport authorities in implementing attractive mobility offerings and ensuring a sustainable public local transport system throughout Lower Saxony.
